we open on "mrcookiezi727", on twitter.com. his name has a meaning, but i'll touch on that later.
mrcookiezi727, henceforth referred to as 727, represents the innocence of the old internet (and specifically old otaku culture).
their profile picture is an image of groot, commonly used nowadays as part of the "when you smell that ZAZA" meme. 727 is blissfully unaware of this, further cementing their innocence.
however, nobody is perfect. their name, "mrcookiezi727", refers to a flub by the famous OSU! player "cookiezi". their innocence is not absolute.
now, we move to the meme itself. it is an edit of a naruto meme from the late 2000s, edited to pertain to OSU! this is the core of their link to the old internet. the meme is fully unironic, and holds no ill will towards anyone.
we move on to the second picture. "LividCitron", henceforth referred to as "Citron", is introduced. Citron represents the cruelty and bigotry of the modern internet.
Citron calls 727's lighthearted meme "lame", and demands 727 remakes it to read "school = leftist indoctrination", as they believe that is the current state of the school system in the USA.
This shows how Citron is tapped into the online conservative sphere, isolated from reality and bombarded with propaganda. Had they been into a school recently, they would see that it is far from spreading leftist propaganda.
However, Citron's attempt fails. 727 responds in genuine confusion. they cannot imagine their meme being used to spread such a message, and are left speechless.
Citron is left in a tailspin by this refutation. their worldview starts to show cracks, as they realise their viewpoint is not representative of reality.
Citron spends the next year having a protracted breakdown on twitter, before finally quitting for good.
